We used to be unwilling to start tuition with children below seven but in the last two years we have received unprecedented requests for support with school admissions at 7+ for academic independent schools with a senior school in London.
As the competition for senior school places continues to intensify, more families are looking at 7+ entry, particularly for very popular London schools. Once a child is in the school, they still need to work hard and meet the school’s required standards, and may still be examined at 11+, but they often have a less difficult transition into the senior school than those applying from the outside. This approach from parents means that the competition at 7+ is becoming increasingly ferocious.
We always recommend an Academic Assessment prior to starting tuition for any 7+ examination to ensure your child’s suitability for target schools. It’s important to check that a family’s 7+ goals are realistic to prevent unnecessary pressure being placed on very young children. The 7+ may not be an appropriate option for your child or in fact, they may be doing well and not need tuition. You can be sure that our advice will be education led and backed up with evidence from our bespoke assessments.
As children sitting the 7+ have to sit still and work on a Mathematics and English paper and potentially verbal and non verbal reasoning papers (depending on the school of choice), it is illuminating to see how children aged six and seven can cope with an Academic Assessment of the same length, difficulty and format. Our assessments are designed to mirror what children will face in real exams and are constantly updated by qualified and practicing teachers.
Our 7+ tutors are qualified primary teachers and are used to working with younger children. They have the expertise and experience to vary the pace of an hour’s targeted work and keep lessons fun and engaging.
